Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the two most important compounds extracted from cannabis and hemp plants. While THC ingestion results in a ‘high’, CBD produces no such effects. In fact CBD modulates the intensity of THC and has an overall sedative effect.
CBD has been found to: help cancer patients, to combat inflammation, to aleviate effects of arthritis and osteoporosis, to improve the quality of our skin, to help us cope with anxiety and depression etc.
We are still learning about all the benefits it bring as up to recently it had been illegal to study its effects, and still is in most countries.
Just last year, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, USA) has approved the first CBD based medicine. Epidiolex is CBD based and will be used to treat two different types of epilepsy.
CBD is typically ingested as an oil or a tincture. Nowadays it is also available for pets as it helps them if they have anxiety issues.
